So in one of my pervious posts I told you that in class we have been learning about The Treaty of Waitangi so from what Ive learnt so far Ill tell you what I understand.
So in 1840 the British crown was sent by the Queen to go to New Zealand to get the Treaty of Waitangi day signed over 500 maori reafushed to sigh but over 40 maori lead by Ngāpuhi’s Hōne Heke Pokai signed the Treaty of Waitangi.That pretty much somes up what i no about Waitangi day.

What im still want to know is why did the British crown lie about giving the land back?
I also want to know why they wanted more land as they have heaps already?

School starts again a new year with new adventures.So far in class we have been learnig about mesurment ,Waitangi day and we have also written letters to Ms Mynes our teacher and are now starting to draw a picture of our own face to go on the wall.

This year im looking forward to going to Deep Cove and getting to no Ms Mynes better.

This is my class song we will be singing and dancing to at the production.

My Armistice Day Essay i still have a bit of my bibiography to do and then im done.

Back in 1914 to 1918

 Have you ever thought about back in the day when your great great grandparents were out in the war grounds fighting for over peoples future and countries maybe even their own future let me guess no well that’s one of the reasons why we should at least remember armistice day the day the world war 1 came to a halt on the 11.11.1918 at 11.00 am if you think about it world war 1 went for 4 years  3 months and 14 days that’s a long time but luckily when it came to a halt all around you                                                                                                                                                                       there was just peace and quiet no gun shots just birds happily tweeting away.

Hears a poem that will tell you another reason why Armistice Day is important in New Zealand. (Hint)(Remember toughs who fort in word war 1)

So, on Remembrance Day, remember the soldiers, the families, the people, remember the things they did for our life, our future.

I hope that helped you on another reason armistice day is important but it doesn’t just stop there I’m going to tell you about one of my family members that went to world war 1 Samuel Shaw Turtle Hawthorne.

Samuel was a kind caring man as I’ve been told as I didn’t get to meet him he was so kind and caring that in world war 1 he went to help his friend who had been shot in the leg and when he was dragging him to cover he got shot and died he is a hero in my eyes my families eyes to going back to help someone and risking his only life is unbelievable. I respect him very much even if I didn’t met him he still put his own life on the line for his friend.

So for you here’s a poem I’ve chosen by another writer.

So your probably think were done and dusted here but where not there are twoe more reasons why Armistice Day is important in New Zealand so get ready for your brain to be packed with reasons why

So on 1914 the 28^th of July the soldiers from Britain, US, France, Russia, Italy, USA, Japan Germany Austria/Hungry, Turkey and the Commonwealth started fighting most of these soldiers were volunteers they just went out there and fort for the other countries for some their own country it’s amazing how many people care about other people’s future and countries. So that is another reason why Armistice day is important in New Zealand because of the respect and hope for others that the soldiers gave other people and also for going out and volunteering and putting their live on the line.

This is a letter I found that a solider named Geroge had written well fighting.

February 14th 1915

My darling and loving wife Emily

It is Valentines Day and my thoughts are with you as always, I wish that I could be with you on this special day of love instead of being here in this hell hole which Belgium has become.

I miss you little George and Harry so very much and I pray for the day that this war comes to an end, please pass my love on to the children and kiss them for me.

We arrived at the front line just over a week ago and the smell was so bad that many of the men were sick, to describe the smell would be an impossible task but some of the causes will give you an idea of just how bad it is.

Raw sewage from the open cess pit, body odour from men who havent had a decent wash for weeks, dead bodies rotting in shallow graves and laying out in the open in no mans land, the smell of exploded bombs and the odour of Mustard gas which lingers for a few days after the attack, stagnant mud cigarette smoke and cooking smells all add to the unpleasantness of the trenches.

They say that we will get used to the smell over time but it feels like it will never leave us at the moment.

The smell attracts rats they are everywhere you look and they seem to be unafraid to show themselves, there is so much waste here that the rats are thriving and some of them are as big as felix our cat.

I shaved my head and my pubic hair yesterday because my hair was crawling with lice most of the men have been scratching and itching almost since the day we got here.

The rain is a constant companion flooding the trenches and turning the floor into mud it is so bad that some of the men are getting sores on their feet and can hardly walk with the pain.

Sleep his so hard to come by with the constant booming and banging of the shells from both sides, my bed is a bunk which has been placed in a dug out section of the trench, a mud roof a mud floor and the constant theat of a stray shell keep me awake at night.

I am scared my darling Emily, my life is under constant threat, bullets randomly fired at us, shells exploding every minute of the day, men are dying all around me if not from a stray bullet or shell they are falling with fever and disease.

Four of the boys in my squad have died already they went through basic training with me and i considered them good friends, my best friend John shot himself in the foot just to get out of here and away from the trenches, he will be treated in a field hospital and sent home.

We are going over the top tonight climbing out of the trench and attacking the enemy trenches

A and B sqaud went last night and most of them were killed or wounded before they even got 10 yards out of the trench, it is barbaric and a futile waste of human life but the powers that be seem to think that it is the way forward and keep sending those poor men and boys to their deaths.

I will close now and pray that this is not the last letter that I will ever send to you my darling, I long to be back at home with you and the children.

This letter was so sad. He tried to cheer his family up and tell them he would come home he wouldn’t die he has a lot of courage in him this is another reason why armistice day is important in new Zealand for the courage pride hope and love the soldiers have for other people that they either left behind or fort with or just others

Why I think armistice day is important to New Zealand.I think armistice day is impoprtant to New Zealand because  we had pepole who went to world war 1 and fort for the other  country not knowing when it would ever end or if the would survive some of us had family members who fort in world war 1 so its important we have armistice day in new zealand to remember who fort in world war 1.

So all together Armistice Day is important in New Zealand because of the soldiers who put there life’s on the lines for others and their countries maybe even their own also for their courage and pride and love to everyone and for the rememberance of the solider who fort in world war 1.
